PRESS RELEASE: Heart of Florida Health Center Announces New Chief Medical Officer

Ocala, FL, December 17, 2018 – Heart of Florida Health Center, (HFHC) has named Tabatha Downey, MD, ABFM as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Downey will provide clinical and administrative leadership, as well as, oversight to assure that patient care is efficient, effective and evidence-based. She will advance major clinical initiatives to further the mission of Heart of Florida Health Center, Inc. in support of the residents of Marion County. 

She was previously a Medical Director at Erie Family Health Centers, one of the largest organizations of Federally Qualified Health Centers serving Chicago and its northern suburbs.

Dr. Downey received an MD from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She completed residency at the Cook County Loyola Provident Family Medicine Residency Program. Prior to medical school she was a Registered Nurse, primarily practicing in inner city Emergency Rooms.

Dr. Downey is an accomplished clinician and leader, with an impressive track of success for strategic initiatives to improve quality and efficiency of care. She is committed to eliminating disparities in health care and providing high quality care to those with socioeconomic barriers which negatively impact their health.
